While initially the trade rumors surrounding Evander Kane had gone somewhat quiet following the National Hockey League Entry Draft, it sounds like there are still teams with interest in the troubled, but talented, forward.

TSN insider Darren Dreger was a guest on TSN radio this week when he revealed that teams looking to contend for a Stanley Cup right now had expressed interest in Kane, but he could not provide any details on what teams those might be.

“I know that the interest that has been expressed to Buffalo in Evander Kane primarily came from teams in that win-now mode," said Dreger as per Fanrag's Chris Nichols. "I can’t identify the teams because I don’t know the identity of the teams."

Dreger believes that the teams who lost on big-name free agents this summer could be looking at Evander Kane as a potential backup plan to add offensive punch to their line up.

“If there’s a team out there that maybe didn’t get the forward that they were hoping, then perhaps they take a bit of a chance on Evander Kane. I still think that he’s a capable player. And if the worst is behind him in terms of some of the off-ice nonsense, then he can be the player that I’m describing. I think that teams do have an appreciation for that."

While Dreger did state that he had no knowledge of the teams involved he was willing to speculate about who they might be and he named two organizations in particular.

“So maybe there’s another win-now team out there, like San Jose as an example – or Anaheim. I’m just throwing names out there now. But that’s the scenario that seems most likely for Evander Kane."

Dreger believes that this could be a trade that takes some time to materialize, perhaps even only after the start of the Regular season.
