The Wings could add a big piece.

The Detroit Red Wings know they have to retool their roster as they sit 13 points out of a playoff spot and appear to be set to miss the postseason for the first time in decades.

Fortunately there is a talented crop of college free agents this season and it now appears the Red Wings are among the teams in the mix for top free agent Zach Aston-Reese. Aston-Reese was a huge part of Northeastern University's Huskies program this season picking up 31 goals and 32 assists for 63 points in just 38 games.

Needless to say those kind of numbers guarantee that the Red Wings won't be the only team in the mix here, but TSN insider Bob McKenzie had them on a short list of teams he named as potential landing spots for Aston-Reese.

A powerful 205lbs 22-year-old forward with some offensive flare would certainly be a welcome addition to the Red wings roster.
