A major injury to a young Red Wings forward has just been revealed.

According to a report from Wings insider Ansar Khan of mlive.com. Teemu Pulkkinen went under the knife in early June in his native Finland with the hopes of having his shoulder surgically repaired. It's unclear how the surgery went, but what we do know from Khan is that Pulkkinen is unlikely to start the season on the roster.

Khan believes that the restricted free agent will need at least four to six months to recover from the surgery, and how long it will take him to get in to hockey shape after that recovery could extend that timeline. Pulkkinen was named in several trade rumors, mostly those involving the contract of Pavel Datsyuk, and one has to wonder if this major injury put the breaks on any potential deals, or even the Red Wings decision to wait prior to signing him to a new deal.
