General manager Steve Yzerman has taken over in Detroit and the Red Wings are set to make important decisions on their pending free agents ahead of Monday.

While veteran forward Thomas Vanek isn’t ready to hang up the skates just yet, it seems like he might have to continue playing with another team.

With 16 goals and 36 points in 64 games for the Red Wings last season, Vanek showed that he can still be a valuable contributor, however, it seems that he and Yzerman cannot agree on a deal to move forward.

Team insider Max Bultman of The Athletic has been informed that Vanek’s camp is now talking to other teams across the league seeing that he is not a good fit for the Red Wings for 2019-20.

Vanek ranks ninth among active players with 373 career goals and is also the highest-scoring Austrian-born player in NHL history, with 789 points in 1,029 career games.

While he wants to keep playing, another NHL team will have to be the one making that wish come true… Or else, Vanek might retire after all.
