The World Cup of Hockey pretournament games have treated fans to fast-paced, physical and quality hockey resembling that of Stanley Cup playoffs. Thus, the NHL and NHLPA are already looking forward to the next edition:
“… We’re going to do this on a regular basis,” deputy commissioner Bill Daly told NHL.com. “One of the things that we think we can improve about this tournament is if you make it regular, if you make it consistent… I think it can be a lot bigger.”
The main issue is how the World Cup could fit in with the Olympics. Unfortunately, the NHL has not had any discussions with the IIHF “…for a couple of months now,” Daly said. Luckily, the IIHF will attend the World Cup in Toronto this week.
