Young player will have great opportunity on Flames' top line.

Head coach Bob Hartley has decided to give a young player a great opportunity on Monday.

In Jiri Hudler's absence, young forward Michael Ferland will skate on the Flames' top line with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Older than both guys, Ferland knows his role and wants to help those two talented forwards do their job, scoring goals.

"I'm not going to change much," Ferland said. "I'm just going to go out there and play the way I've been playing. Just try not to think too much, have fun ... I'm just going to keep things simple."

Ferland is an energy player and could provide some time and space to his new line mates.

"I'm going to be the first guy in on forechecks, try to turn pucks over, and be a net front presence for those guys. Just pressure their (defense), keep my feet moving, and try to create room for them."

After his incredible playoffs last year, where Ferland scored 5 points in 9 games, Ferland has slowed down this year, scoring 1 goal and 5 assists in 32 games.
