Your Call: Did the Leafs miss out on Vatanen?

With the Devils swapping out Henrique, could the Leafs have done the same with Bozak?

In case you missed it, the Anaheim Ducks and New Jersey Devils pulled off a major trade earlier today with forwards Adam Henrique and Joseph Blandisi headed to Anaheim in exchange for defenceman Sami Vatanen.

It’s believed that Leafs management had been watching Vatanen for some time, potentially inquiring about his availability during this past offseason. As it turns out, Leafs management were never close to landing the 26-year-old Finn, but… should they have made a bigger push? It’s clear that the Leafs are missing a capable, right-shooting, top four defenceman and Vatanen could have fit the bill perfectly. The same could have been said for several other right-handed D who have been moved recently though, including Travis Hamonic, Jason Demers, Colin Miller and Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Still… you can’t help but think, would the Ducks have taken Leafs center Tyler Bozak in exchange for Vatanen? Did the Leafs miss out on one here? Who else is out there? Erik Gudbranson from the Vancouver Canucks? They don’t seem the type of team who would have much use for Bozak though…  So again… did the Leafs miss out on Vatanen? Or are you happy that they held onto their cards?
