As first reported by Philadelphia Flyers insider Sam Carchidi yesterday, GM Ron Hextall announced that the team will not be releasing rookie Nolan Patrick to Team Canada for the upcoming World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY.

The 19-year-old, 2nd overall pick from this past June’s NHL Entry Draft has just two goals and six points in 21 games with the Flyers this season and is playing fewer and fewer minutes under head coach Dave Hakstol with each passing game.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native tore up the junior ranks with the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings with 240 points in 212 games. Many Flyers fans were looking forward to seeing what the budding power forward could do on the international stage for the first time. What could have been an enormous confidence booster for the teenager has been squashed by Hextall and Flyers management.

Good call?
