Your Call: Should the Oilers keep Yamamoto or Puljujarvi?

One of these first round picks is definitely making a strong case for himself.

The Edmonton Oilers selected one of the most skilled players in the NHL 2017 Entry Draft in Kailer Yamamoto with their 22nd selection. The general consensus was that the WHL star would go back to Spokane this season, given his lack of size and physical maturity.

Yamamoto will have none of that. He’s made a name for himself in pre-season, scoring 5 goals and 1 assist, securing the team lead in points. Meanwhile, last year’s selection, Jesse Puljujarvi, has yet to show his teeth in camp. He was given an opportunity to lineup next to Connor McDavid on Monday night, but lost his spot in favour of Yamamoto.

Expectations are high for the hulking Finnish prospect. Selected at 4th overall in ’16, Oilers management certainly expects strong play from Puljujarvi, but for the moment, it seems as if the newest pick in a pool of talented players has the upper edge on his teammate.

Who do you think will make the roster on opening night?
