Your Call: Should the Wings bring back Vanek?

Don’t look now but the short-lived Thomas Vanek era may not be over in Detroit. A report yesterday from Detroit Free Press’ Helene St. James has linked the 33-year-old veteran to the Detroit Red Wings and, if the rumors are to be believed, Vanek would already be signed if it weren’t for the team’s awful salary cap situation.

Salary restrictions aside, would you welcome a return to Detroit for Vanek? The big winger was remarkably productive last year with the Wings and could certainly help the goal starved team in 2017-18. Last season Vanek put up 15 goals and 38 points before being shipped to the Florida Panthers at the trade deadline. He’s just three years removed from a 20+ goal, 50+ point performance with the Minnesota Wild and, while he’s unlikely to reach the heights of his earlier career, he still has some game left in him.
