Yzerman reportedly hires NCAA coach and is “completely revamping” Red Wings’ staff

According to a second-hand, unverified report the Detroit Red Wings have hired Mike Barwis, former Head Strength & Conditioning coach for University of Michigan Football, as the team’s new Director of Human Performance.

The 46 year old Barwis is something of a guru in the field of strength and conditioning and has previously worked with the New York Mets in a similar capacity. He’s also the host of Discover Channel’s “American Muscle” program which features his work with several professional athletes.

Suffice it to say, this is a huge hiring by Yzerman. But, as Justin Spiro reports above, Yzerman is completely revamping the way the Red Wings do business. Expect more big changes with regards to the way the Red Wings train, rest and recuperate.
