20 years ago this month, the “Brawl in Hockeytown.”

It was one of the craziest, most intense, and most bitter rivalries for an entire generation of hockey fans, we're talking of course of the rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and Colorado Avalanche.

Obviously the recent fortunes of both teams have greatly diminished that rivalry, but we assure after a few seconds of watching the video you will find yourselves once again fully immersed in the emotion of the scene.

The date was March 27th 1997 and the Detroit Red Wings were out for revenge. The result was one of the most violent games in modern history, including Darren McCarty taking a measure of revenge on Claude Lemieux as the referees stood by and watched Lemieux take a beating many felt he deserved.
