Stunning.

This is a game, or at least a period, that is likely going to be haunting the management and coaching of the Philadelphia Flyers for some time to come. That will be even more true if the drastic changes that some segments of the fan base have been calling for are eventually made by the higher ups within the organization.

On Saturday night the Flyers were visiting the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Center, in Toronto Canada and things got off to just about as bad of a start as you could imagine for the Flyers. The Maple Leafs absolutely stunned the boys from the city of brotherly love when they lit them up for 4 unanswered goals in the first period, including a hat trick from 24 year old Maple Leafs forward Andreas Johnson, not exactly a player known for his goal scoring abilities thus far in his National Hockey League career.

To give you a little context here Andreas Johnson has only played in parts of two seasons for the Maple Leafs and over 9 regular season games last year he managed to find the back of the net just 2 different times. Leading into tonight's game Johnson had appeared in 18 games for the Maple Leafs this season and like the year before he had only managed to find the back of the net on just 2 different occasions. So to put things in perspective, in 12 minutes against the Philadelphia Flyers Andreas Johnson nearly matched his career goal output in the National Hockey League, that's great for the Leafs of course but rather embarrassing for the Flyers.

It was a particularly brutal night for Flyers backup goaltender Calvin Pickard who allowed 4 goals after just 7 total shots in the first period from the Leafs. That means that Pickard made fewer saves, just 3, than he allowed goals into the net and his abysmal save percentage of .428 on the night so far is a reflection of that fact. It's unclear if he will be back out for the 2nd period but I'm willing to bet that Andreas Johnson is hoping to see him back out there when he comes out for the second period.
