The rumors that have come out of Montreal in recent days have all been negative, and have primarily stemmed from what is believed to be a major rift between team captain Max Pacioretty and it's highest paid player, P.K. Subban.

During the media scrums today in Montreal Subban did his best to downplay those rumors, but frankly it came off as someone who was trying way too hard, and it led to one particularly awkward moment that, more than any of the rumors, did seem to indicate there was some kind of problem between the two players.

“Do I have to make out with him to prove I like him?” Subban said when asked about the conflict with Pacioretty.

Subban followed that up by going over to Pacioretty and hugging him during his media scrum, and it was Pacioretty's reaction that told the story. If you watch the video, Pacioretty's hand never leave his pockets, and he it takes some time before he forces an awkward smile onto his face, which at no point ever seems genuine.

There was talk at the end of last week that suggested Subban's time in Montreal could be at an end, and the motivating factor was rumored to be major rifts in the locker room, whether or not you feel this adds any credence to the rumors is likely a result of how you interpret Pacioretty's reaction to the hug from Subban.

«On s'entend bien Max Pacioretty et moi. On se côtoie tous les jours et on se respecte. Qu'est-ce que je dois faire pour le démontrer? Va-t-il falloir que j'aille l'embrasser? Katia [la femme de Pacioretty] n'aimera sûrement pas ça», a affirmé P.K. Subban lors du post-mortem des Canadiens de Montréal.
