Breaking: Jonathan Drouin goes down hard in practice this morning.

This looks like bad news for the Montreal Canadiens.

The Habs have largely overachieved when it comes to the relatively low expectations fans and pundits have of them coming into the 2018 - 2019 National Hockey League regular season. The team has relied on some key performances from their core players and one such player has been talented young forward Jonathan Drouin. Drouin has really elevated his game this season and the results are paying off big time for the Canadiens, so much so that the trade for Drouin, a trade that once looked like the Tampa Bay Lightning had clearly won, may be paying bigger dividends for the Canadiens.

Unfortunately however the Habs were hit with some bad news on Monday morning when Drouin went down hard during Habs practice. He was not hit by a fellow teammate or struck by a puck or anything of that nature but instead seemed to simply fall awkwardly all on his own. Drouin was attempting to coral a pass from across the ice between his legs with his stick when he appeared to tangle his feet up with his own piece of lumber. The result was Drouin falling awkwardly to the ice while seemingly tripping himself, a fall that left him off balance and that left him no opportunity to brace himself against the impact of the hard playing surface beneath him.

It was pretty obvious right away that Drouin was in considerable pain as he cried out on the ice and was only able to get back to his feet gingerly. The good news I supposed is that initially he seemed able to put weight on his skates and make his way off the ice under his own power, but as he drew closer and closer to the bench and the Habs training staff he gradually began to show a bigger and bigger limp in his step.

I obviously have no idea what the injury to Drouin might be at this time, but he was clearly favoring his left leg as he left the ice and even took his weight off of it completely at one point while heading towards the bench, so I assume that is the part of his body that is hurting right now.
