Two of the National Hockey League's young and upcoming stars collided on Saturday night and it produced some pretty exciting fireworks, at least for half the fans who were tuning in to the game.

The Colorado Avalanche welcomed the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday night and although there was plenty of action to watch during the course of the game, there were a ton of eyeballs on two of the young rookies participating in that game. You see both Colorado Avalanche first round pick Cale Makar and Arizona Coyotes first round pick Barrett Hayton were on the ice for this one and during the final minutes of the game's third period we were treated to a pretty cool moment involving both players.

Makar, a defenseman selected 4th overall at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, and his Avalanche were trailing late in the third when the 20 year old blue liner decided that he had to make a play. The young defenseman did exactly that when he chased down Hayton who was skating up with the puck in the neutral zone, catching the Coyotes rookie completely unawares and delivering a big hit to the 19 year old forward. Hayton, selected 5th overall at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, to his credit was able to bounce right back up to his feet and seemed none the worse for wear, but there was no question he was on the losing end of this exchange.

Check out the hit in the short clip below.
