While this is without a doubt one of the most vicious chants of the National Hockey League season, it's the playoffs and, while it may have crossed the line in the eyes of some, anything goes in the playoffs.

On Thursday night Ottawa Senators veteran defenseman Dion Phaneuf dropped the gloved with New York Rangers veteran defenseman Brendan Smith, and while the fight itself wasn't brutal, the chant that followed was.As Phaneuf skated back to the locker room, fans in Madison Square Garden began chanting "Sloppy Seconds!" "Sloppy Seconds!" "Sloppy Seconds!."

For those who don't get the reference, this is a call back to the comments made by Sean Avery when he was a member of the Dallas Stars. At the time Avery had commented on how guys in the league were falling in love with his "sloppy seconds," in reference to Phaneuf dating Avery's former girlfriend Elisha Cuthbert. Phaneuf and Cuthbert have since become married. The incident resulted in him being suspended "indefinitely" by the National Hockey League.

Needless to say while the chant wasn't super clear on the broadcast, many around the NHL took notice, and there's no doubt that Phaneuf himself was among that group.
