Edmonton & Calgary Orchestras do battle over Hockey Night theme.

Although there is a certain amount of hatred behind every rivalry in professional sports, at the end of the day we all tune in for entertainment purposes and it is really all fun and games when you boil it all down. One of the most intense rivalries in North American pro sports these days comes in the form of the long standing rivalry between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames, provincial rivals in the province of Alberta, Canada.

The Flames and the Oilers, as well as their respective fan bases, have hated one another for as long as I can remember and their frequent Western Conference matchups have been simply labeled as "The Battle of Alberta." It is a tradition that both fan bases very much look forward to every single year and it is one that, again although comes with a little hate, produces some of the most fun moments for those fan bases each and every single season in the National Hockey League. Unfortunately fans of the Flames and the Oilers have not been able to get their fix as of late due to the current global situation, but two groups of fans managed to find a way to maintain the rivalry.

Although they were unable to physically gather in the same room, members of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and members of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra teamed up to do battle online in the Battle of Alberta, albeit a very different one. This time the two respective fan bases dueled one another with their musical instruments instead of their hockey equipment and they did so while playing a very familiar tune for fans who bothered to tune in to watch the duel. The two sides were both playing the "Hockey Night in Canada" theme that we have all become so familiar with as hockey fans, and to be perfectly honest they both sounded really good.

Of course at the end of the day the only real winners here are us the fans who get to enjoy this piece of music, although no doubt all of those who participated in this version of the Battle of Alberta got a kick out of it as well.
