These two boys were throwing with bad intentions. I'm not exactly sure what got into Vancouver Canucks forward Micheal Ferland and Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno, but both men clearly wanted a piece of the other.

In the opening minutes of Game 1 between the Canucks and the Wild on Sunday the two aforementioned players decided that they were going to throw down immediately off of the faceoff at center ice. Ferland could be seen talking up a storm to Foligno, presumably challenging the Wild forward or trying to goad him into a fight by trash talking, and just a few short seconds after the puck had dropped these two guys were throwing some heavy leather at one another.

Both men were reaching all the way back for these haymakers although I have to admit that based on the damage we saw after this exchange, it looks like Ferland got the better of Foligno in this one. The Wild forward could be seen bleeding from his nose after trading blows with Ferland, likely as the result of a punch that cause Foligno's visor to slam down onto the bridge of his nose. That spot on the nose appeared to be the only real damage to the face of Foligno however so I suspect he will be fine in spite of taking some big shots.

Ferland on the other hand looked supremely satisfied as he skated over to the penalty box and looked pumped up after his performance once he got into the box. The body language between the two competitors was very different and for this, among other reasons, I gotta give the win here to Ferland.
