A bad day for Reimer.

Carolina Hurricanes goaltender is getting an early Christmas vacation this year but this is not how he would have liked it to play out.

Reimer and his Hurricanes were in Toronto on Monday afternoon to play the Toronto Maple Leafs in one of the final games before the National Hockey League's holiday break, but things went catastrophically bad for the Hurricanes very early on. The Leafs jumped out to a very early 1 - 0 lead in the game's very first period, after just 30 seconds of play in fact, when Leafs captain John Tavares failed on the wraparound only to see veteran Leafs forward Jason Spezza finish the job. That would only be the start of the trouble for the Hurricanes though.

By the time it was all said and done for Reimer the former Maple Leafs goaltender had played just 5 minutes and 10 seconds of hockey and Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rob Brind'Amour was signaling for him to be pulled. Reimer gave up a whopping 3 goals over those 5 minutes of play, although to be fair to the veteran goalie here he was not receiving a great deal of help from his team. On top of their first goal of the game the Leafs would go on to add 2 more goals on the power play they received as the result of Zach Hyman losing a couple of teeth. Hyman took a stick to the face that resulted in a 4 minute double minor for the Canes and the Leafs made no mistake on either penalty.

Although Reimer was the man blamed for the goals, he was pulled out of the game after all, there is no question that the Hurricanes left him out to dry here. Just look at this first power play goal from the Leafs, forward William Nylander is left completely alone in the slot and has all the time in the world to pick his spot.

The third goal you could certainly blame Reimer for as he was simply caught out of position, but even then it was more so a magnificent shot from Tavares than a glaring mistake from Reimer on the play. Not a good first couple of minutes for the Hurricanes.
