Maple Leafs and Predators have just pulled off a 1 for 1 trade.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Nashville Predators have pulled off a trade just days before the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2019 - 2020 NHL regular season.

According to an official report from the Nashville Predators official website, the Predators have acquired defenseman Ben Harpur from the Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Miikka Salomaki. The trade appears to be a straight up one for one trade with no draft picks or prospects involved in this one.

This marks the second trade in a very short time span for Harpur who was acquired by the Maple Leafs during the offseason in the trade that also saw Cody Ceci coming to Toronto with Nikita Zaitsev and Connor Brown going back the other way to the Ottawa Senators. Although Harpur was a regular in the National Hockey League for the Senators he was never able to make an impact for the Maple Leafs at the NHL level, never appearing in so much as a single game at the NHL level for the organization. Instead Harpur toiled in the American Hockey League as a member of the Toronto Marlies this season, appearing in 33 games for that team while recording 1 goal and 10 assists for a combined 11 points and a plus minus rating of +10.

Miikka Salomaki on the other hand is a lifelong member of the Predators organization having been selected in the 2nd round (52nd overall) of the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft. This season Salomaki appeared in just 5 NHL games for the Predators recording just a single point, a goal, and finished with a plus minus rating of +2. Outside of his time in the NHL he spent 41 games with the Milwaukee Admirals at the American Hockey League level and there he recorded 5 goals and 10 assists for 15 points and once again boasted a solid plus minus rating of +16.

This is definitely not the biggest trade in the world but it does add some solid depth to each organization ahead of playoffs. Of course each team loses some depth at another position in order to make this happen, but that is the way of the world in the business of sports.
