If you just watched the first period of today's game between North America and Team Sweden no one would have blamed you for assuming Team North America simply cruised to a win after absolutely dominating the Swedes early on in the game.

That was not the case however, instead we got a back and forth affair that eventually led to a big comeback from Team Sweden, a comeback that resulted in them putting up the goals of their own and eventually forcing an overtime frame.

It was in that overtime period that we got an incredible series of back and forth plays that eventually ended with Nathan MacKinnon alone in front of the Swedish net where he beat Henrik Lundqvist to send the Swede's back to their locker room with a loss.

It's no surprise that MacKinnion admitted after the game he was glad he scored, according to him however it was because he would not have been able to backcheck he was so exhausted from the back and forth sequence.
