According to a report from Washington Capitals head coach Barry Trotz, there was a major injury to forward Daniel Winnik as he retreated to the locker room after blocking a shot with his head on Thursday night.

Trotz told reporters after the game that Winnik lost a part of his ear when blocking said shot, a fact that seems even more incredible when you realize that Winnik eventually returned to the game.
