Philipp Grubauer carried off the ice after suffering a serious looking injury.

The Colorado Avalanche found themselves in a pretty deep hole early on in Game 1 of their second round series against the Dallas Stars, but of far greater concern than the score right now will be the status of Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer who appeared to suffer a significant injury during the opening minutes of the game's second period.

I have to be honest it is hard to tell exactly what happened to Grubauer on this play, there's a lot of body language from the Avs goaltender here and some of it suggest he may have hyper extended or pulled something in one of his legs, but the majority of the video evidence says groin injury to me. There is one angle especially that appears to show Grubauer reaching for his groin area as he collapses to the ice in pain.  Keep in mind that this is purely speculation on my part at this time, there has been no report of any kind from the Avalanche at the time of this writing.

The loss of Grubauer could have a major impact on this series if the injury proves to keep him out for the long term, often these injuries that do not look like much turn out to be the most serious especially when it comes to goaltenders. The good news here for the Avalanche if you're looking for a silver lining is that in his 2 appearances thus far inside the bubble Pavel Francouz has looked really good for the Avs.

We will provide you with an update as soon as more information becomes available regarding Grubauer status, for now here are the replay angles of the injury.
