This is an absolutely bonkers situation.

A youth hockey game between two First Nations team erupted into violence this week and things got so completely out of hand that the police are now getting involved and investigating some of the more disturbing incidents that occurred during the game. The game was being contested between the Longlake Generals ands the Kattawapsiak Midgets and it was a hotly contested game due to the fact that it was a playoff game at the Little Native Hockey Tournament.

The major brawl that really created the impetus for the police investigation actually took place after the conclusion of the game and in fact it kind of makes the Kattawapiskak Midgets look like rather poor teammates. After the game had ended of the Kattawapiskak Midgets players was being accosted in the neutral zone by 2 players from the Longlake Generals, and if anything more Generals players began to circle around like vultures as they ganged up on the lone Kattawapiskak Midgets player.

Now you might be wondering where his Kattawapiskak Midgets' teammates were while he was getting jumped, they were too busy celebrating their win to even notice that one of their own was currently getting roughed up. In fact two additional Kattawapiskak Midgets players who were not celebrating with their team simply stood there and let the entire thing go down. In their defense, when the majority of the Kattawapiskak Midgets players became aware of what was going on, all hell broke loose and multiple fights broke out across the ice.

It is the actions of some of the adults in this incident however that are truly disturbing.

From 680 News:

At this point the officials step back as more players from the Kattawapiskak squad join in the fracas, leading to numerous fights on the ice.

Members of another youth hockey team can be seen banging their fists on the glass and egging on the combatants from the other side of the boards.

Eventually several adults emerge and while some appear to be trying to break up the fights, one individual can be seen picking up a hockey stick and swinging it at several players.

I can understand a parent defending their child, but to swing a hockey stick at a bunch of kids seems absolutely outlandish and this is surely one of the things that police are investigating.
