Unfortunately for 23-year-old Philadelphia Flyers youngster Scott Laughton this may go down as one of the more embarrassing injuries of the season.

In the first period of the Thursday night match up between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Vancouver Canucks, Laughton attempted to deliver a hit to 23-year-old Canucks defenseman Troy Stetcher, but his attempted hit resulted in disaster.

Stecher turned at the last second causing Laughton to miss him, and the momentum from that miss sent Laughton crashing face first into referee Tom Kowal who barely moved an inch on the play.

The result was Laughton's head, face and neck taking the full brunt of the impact, and he lay on the ice for several moments before eventually being helped up off the ice by his teammates.

Laughton left to the Flyers locker room and did not return, and considering the force of the blow to his head that's probably a good thing.
