It was another painful night for Charlie McAvoy, who once again left the ice bloodied after taking a hit to the mouth during Tuesday’s matchup between the Boston Bruins and the Los Angeles Kings.

McAvoy exited late in the second period with a bloody lip and visible facial damage after the latest blow to his mouth, just the latest in a string of brutal dental injuries this season.

“I wish the hits would stop coming, honestly,” McAvoy admitted the game.

But in classic hockey fashion, the Bruins’ defenseman returned for the third period… and ended up being the hero. Just 39 seconds into overtime, McAvoy buried the game-winning goal to lift Boston to a 2–1 victory, extending the Bruins’ home winning streak to 13 games. After celebrating with teammates, he quickly made his way off the ice for another visit to the dentist, something that has become a familiar routine this season…

The latest hit reportedly left McAvoy with broken front teeth and additional damage to his bottom teeth.

Unfortunately for the Bruins blue liner, this isn’t his first painful dental ordeal this year. Back in November, McAvoy missed nearly a month after taking a slap shot to the face that fractured his jaw and required surgery.

Still, despite the injuries piling up, McAvoy focused on the result. He may need more dental work from the Bruins’ team dentist, but he left the rink with the only stat that really mattered: two points in the standings. McAvoy keeps producing points, but also... keeps losing teeth.
