Auston Matthews lands in the spotlight… because of his gorgeous girlfriend!

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has garnered a lot of attention for his on-ice performance, but off-ice, he remains a private person.

However, on Tuesday, Matthews appeared in a picture with a new woman on his arm, Vanessa Piunno, that she shared on Instagram and has since gone viral.

The March 3 post showed Piunno with Matthews in the Olympic Village back in Milan in a series of images from Italy as she enjoyed the Winter Olympics with the Leafs’ captain.

“A month to remember forever,” reads the caption alongside two hearts.

The post immediately started trending with everyone talking about Matthews, and finally something positive to say about the Leafs’ captain. It’s been a tough week since the return from Team USA’s gold medal win at the Olympics, with Toronto sitting 0-4 before tonight's game and speculation growing that Toronto could pivot into seller mode by Friday’s deadline. The Leafs find themselves in last place in the Atlantic Division, fourth from last in the Eastern Conference and 21st in the league.

Piunno’s Instagram bio states she is a Vancouver and Toronto-based skincare specialist who runs her own company, Piunno Beauty. The company’ website notes she offers private one-on-one skincare training that is “personal, thoughtful and rooted in education.”

Matthews’ new love interest is getting a lot of attention, and perhaps could allow the Maple Leafs’ superstar to see some positive reports about him amid Toronto’s struggles and trade rumours.
