Detroit's best sports nickname of all-time!

The Detroit Free Press conducted an online survey for readers to vote for the best Detroit sports nickname. Nearly 2800 votes were received. Many of the iconic sports figures of Detroit were mentioned in that survey. Amongst them, we can find Dick "Night Train" Lane, "Sweet Lou" Whitaker, Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, Steve "The Captain" Yzerman, Calvin "Megatron" Johnson, Gordie "Mr. Hockey" Howe and Aurelio "Senior Smoke" Lopez. The Red Wings fans could be proud of the nicknames that competed in the finals: The Captain vs Mr. Hockey! Of these two, Mr. Hockey was voted the best Detroit sports nickname! Even if voters on the Internet can be linked to young kids, everyone respects the 85 years-old legend!
