Darryl Sutter talked about it two weeks ago and now Drew Doughty is talking about it.
Doughty wants to cut back on shift time and in turn shave off some time played. Doughty is hoping to reduce his shifts from his average of 53 seconds to 50 seconds. Therefore reducing his time on ice by about a minute and a half per game.
Doughty has been playing an average of 3 minute more per game compared to last year due to injuries and the loss of Slava Voynov due to his indefinite suspension from the NHL. Doughty was quoted saying that he "feels fine" but he "would have more energy" if he was playing less minutes.
Doughty is a great defenseman, but if this trend keeps up all season, we can only wonder how much Doughty will have left in the tank for the playoffs.
