Another big day of waivers in the National Hockey League.
There are once again a large number of players being waived today with teams around the National Hockey League quickly looking to finalize their rosters ahead of the regular season, but it is likely a sign that we are headed for an even bigger day tomorrow.
For now we will stick to today's news and that includes a whopping 15 players being waived after everyone from waivers on Friday cleared the process without being claimed. There are a number of recognizable names this time around, although as always it is relatively rare to see players claimed at this stage of the preseason.
Here is the full list of 15 names:
Kolyachonok, Vladislav
Bjornfot, Tobias
Bussi, Brandon
Bordeleau, Thomas
Crookshank, Angus
Halonen, Brian
MacEwen, Zack
White, Colton
Gilbert, Dennis
Alexeyev, Alexander
Graves, Ryan
Harvey-Pinard, Rafael
Imama, Bokondji
Poulin, Samuel
White, Colin
Although the list contains a number of established NHL veterans, like Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Graves for example, the reality is that many of them are in positions that prohibit them from any real chance of a waiver claim. In the example of Graves, he is currently in the third year of a six year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $4.5 million. Not many would be willing to take on Graves for 4 more seasons at that number and even less would be willing to do so without recouping assets in return.
We will have to wait until Sunday at noon to learn whether or not any of the players waived today have been claimed.
