16 NHL players added to Covid list in a single day.

A disaster for the NHL.

The National Hockey League is going through something of a crisis right now with a rampant outbreak of Covid across the league, resulting in several teams being shutdown through the holidays.

On Saturday things continued to unravel for the NHL when a staggering 16 players were added to the Covid protocol list in a single day, and that number doesn't even include coaches or other members of NHL staff that have also come down with positive tests over that period of time.

A huge number of  teams and players were affected so we will break them all down for you:

Boston Bruins

Taylor Hall

Curtis Lazar

Detroit Red Wings

Givani Smith

Carter Rowney

Alex Nedeljkovic

Filip Zadina

Montreal Canadiens

Artturi Lehkonen

New Jersey Devils

P.K. Subban

Philadelphia Flyers

Max Willman

Edmonton Oilers

Jesse Puljujarvi

Los Angeles Kings

Cal Peterson

St. Louis Blues

Oskar Sundqvist

Vancouver Canucks

Tyler Myers

Toronto Maple Leafs

TJ Brodie

Jack Campbell

Travis Dermott

Again these players numbers are not a true representation of just how dire this situation has become around the NHL. The Toronto Maple Leafs added 2 of their coaches to the Covid protocol list as well yesterday, including head coach Sheldon Keefe, and the same can be said for the Detroit Red Wings who also added 2 coaches to the list including head coach Jeff Blashill.

Many have speculated that the NHL may be forced to take drastic measures, including potentially shutting the season down for a period of time, and with 66 players now added to the list over the last 72 hours it's not hard to see why there is growing concern around that possibility.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli had a particularly bleak look on the whole situation on Saturday, stating that the number of players currently in protocol now tops over 100 players across the league, a number that represents nearly 15% of the league's total players.

The NHL will have to find time to make up the games it has already postponed this season, and with seemingly more games being postponed every week, this is now leading to serious doubts surrounding Olympic participation as well.
