The UK-based Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) has confirmed that 19 year old forward Gary Kelly of the Dundas Stars has passed away following a tragic accident while on vacation in Ibiza, Spain.

From BritishIceHocke.co.uk:

"We regret to inform you of the passing of Gary Kelly at the age of 19, after he fell off of his balcony in Ibiza.

Kelly played this past season with the Aberdeen Lynx and Dundee Rockets (SNL) where he had 10 goals, 17 points in 11 games played. He also played with the Dundee Stars (EIHL) in Great Britain's top professional hockey league, suiting up for two games.

Kelly played for Scotland at the junior level, suiting up for their national teams from U11-U19.

May he rest in peace."

The 19-year-old died after reportedly falling from a balcony at the Ibiza Rocks Hotel in San Antonio, per local media coverage.

Ibiza Rocks has suspended all forthcoming events “out of respect for those involved,” while Spanish Police have launched an investigation into Kelly’s death.

“We send our thoughts and condolences to Gary’s family, partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time,” wrote a spokesperson for the Stars.

“Gary was hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him. His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed.”

“On the ice, he gave everything he had. Off the ice, he brought energy, kindness, and an infectious love of life that lifted everyone around him. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that spirit left a lasting mark on our team, our club, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

“Gary’s potential was limitless, but even more than that, he was simply a brilliant person to be around. He was part of our family, and his absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled.

“We send our deepest condolences to Gary’s family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts are with you, and we stand with you in grief and in love.”

RIP to the young man. Gone, but never forgotten.
