Multiple sources indicate that the Bruins are contemplating a pair of trades.
It is the dead of summer and that usually means that things remain relatively quiet around the National Hockey League, but recently there have been some rumblings around the Boston Bruins that simply won't go away.
At the center of these rumblings are a pair of forwards, Bruins centerman Casey Mittelstadt and Bruins centerman Pavel Zacha, with the rumor mill suggesting that one or both of these players could be traded very soon.
Multiple sources are now reporting that it seems likelier and likelier that Mittelstadt will be dealt by the Bruins sooner rather than later, with one NHL executive even indicating that the Bruins may have never really wanted him in the first place.
"I don’t know how many rumors he’s been in, but I’ve been hearing Mittelstadt could be on the move again since before the Bruins season even ended," said one NHL executive as per RG Media. "There was a common feeling that he wasn’t their main target when they traded for him; [William] Zellers and the second-round draft pick were."
That is of course just a rumor and there's no guarantee that Mittelstadt will be traded any time soon, but what makes this one so interesting is that it is flying around all over the place.
The Sekeres and Price podcast recently indicated that a team like the Vancouver Canucks would or should be interested in Mittelstadt and Zacha as potential trade targets, adding that they had also heard the rumblings about a potential trade on the horizon from the Bruins. You can hear those comments in the short clip just below:
Interestingly enough both men currently have 2 years remaining on their NHL contract, with Mittelstadt coming it at an average annual value and cap hit of $5.75 million per season while Zacha boasts a slightly lower price tag at an average annual value and cap hit of $4.75 million per season.
Zacha appeared in all 82 games for the Bruins last season and had 14 goals and 33 assists for a total of 47 points, while Mittelstadt played in 81 games split between the Bruins and Avalanche, putting up 15 goals and 25 assists for a total of 40 points over that stretch.
Should a team pull the trigger on a trade that the Bruins appear to be seriously interested in making? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
