The 2025-26 National Hockey League regular season is right around the corner and that means that teams around the league are being forced to make some tough decisions when it comes to their roster.

We will no doubt see plenty of examples over the coming days as teams make the necessary cuts to get their rosters compliant before the start of the season, and we've got a big one today as well. On Sunday, a whopping 23 players were sent to waivers by various teams around the league, making all of them available to be picked up by rival teams in the NHL.

Now it is unlikely that these players will be picked up at a time when teams are generally trying to cut their rosters down, but every year there are some exceptions to this rule.

Let's look at the players who were placed on waivers today:

Mysak, Jan

Jones, Zachary
Leschyshyn, Jake
Fasching, Hudson
Gaunce, Brendan
Pyyhtia, Mikael
Toninato, Dominic
Attard, Ronald
Capobianco, Kyle
Lind, Kole
Stranges, Antonio
Belzile, Alex
Clurman, Nathan
Condotta, Lucas
Del Gaizo, Marc
Farrell, Sean
Schmelzer, Ryan
Luff, Matt
Schueneman, Corey
Fanti, Ryan
Lundmark, Simon
Sabourin, Scott
Santini, Steven

Now of course it goes without saying that none of these players were expected to have a major impact on any NHL roster in particular, which is part of the reason they are being waived today, but they remain useful players in limited roles. There are players like former Vancouver Canucks first round pick Brendan Gaunce that bring a hefty bit of NHL experience to the table with 189 career games under his belt, players that could be valuable in a depth role. There are also the likes of NHL enforcer Scott Sabourin who, despite only having 47 NHL games under his belt, have made an impact and a bit of a name for themselves by being dangerous physical presences on the ice.

Would you pick up any of today's waiver players? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
