A young National Hcokey League goaltender has not been offered what he feels he is worth.
Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun is reporting that 24-year-old goalie Connor Hellebuyck has filled for arbitration after failing to reach a deal with the Winnipeg Jets prior to today's 5 pm EST arbitration deadline.
Hellebuyck was the Jets workhorse last season appearing in 56 games although his numbers were mediocre by the standard of an NHL starting goaltender. Hellebuyck recorded a 2.89 goals against average and a .907 save percentage, not world beating numbers, but Hellebuyck likely believes he deserves to be paid as a starter.
The Jets on the other hand are likely looking for a very different deal especially given their acquisition of veteran Steve Mason this summer.
