3 Islanders in Covid protocol, hours before facing the Flames.
Bad break for the Islanders.
The New York Islanders are going to be without some of their regulars this evening.
The team is set to face off against the Calgary Flames less than two hours from the time of this writing, but they will be down at least 3 players coming into the game due to Covid related absences. Mollie Walker of the New York Post is reporting that 3 Islanders have been placed on the National Hockey League's Covid protocol list today, with those being defenseman Adam Pelech, defenseman Andy Greene and forward Anthony Beauvillier who was reportedly added to the list just minutes ago.
Of course there is always the possibility that some of the results here have come as the result of a false positive, something we have seen all too frequently in the NHL this season, but with 3 players winding up on the list at the same time it would suggest that there is more than mere faulty testing at play here.
Just this week the NHL was forced to shut down the Ottawa Senators entirely after a whopping 10 players from that franchise found themselves on the Covid protocol list, and while the Islanders are still far away from such a scenario no doubt they will now take extra precautions after 3 players have popped at once.
Thus far there has been no indication that this will have any impact on tonight's game, other than the obvious fact that all 3 of the aforementioned players are not eligible to participate.
Beauvillier has appeared in 13 games for the Islanders so far this season and has 3 goals and 4 assists for a total of 7 points. Beauvillier has no penalty minutes on the season and currently sits at a plus minus rating of 0.
Pelech has also made 13 appearances on the season with no goals and 2 assists for 2 total points to his name. Pelech has 2 penalty minutes to his name and has a plus minus of +4 on the season.
Greene, like the other 2, has 13 appearances on this season and he also has no goals and 1 assist for a total of 1 point on the season. Greene has no penalty minutes on the season but is a -3 so far in the campaign.
