The man who was voted the best player in all of college hockey has opted not to sign with the Colorado Avalanche and this has led to a heated battle for his services.
While we still have no idea where defenseman Will Butcher will be playing hockey at the start of next season, in a recent article for Sportsnet insider Luke Fox revealed that five teams remain in the mix for Butcher.
According to Fox those five teams are the Las Vegas Golden Knights, New Jersey Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins.
While there were previously far more contenders for Butcher's services, Fox believes only these five remain. This indicates that teams like the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks are all out of the mix despite having previously been connected to Butcher.
