As most of our readers will know by now, National Hockey League veteran Shane Doan has made the decision to hang up his skates, but what you may now know is there was still plenty of interest in Doan.

According to a report from Arizona Sports at least five NHL organizations had shown interest in signing Doan, although whether or not that was to an NHL contract or a professional tryout offer is unclear.

The five teams were reportedly the New York Rangers, the Dallas Stars, the Nashville Predators and two Canadian franchises in the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers.

This news comes as a surprise as it appeared Doan was leaning towards another NHL season, and when his initial retirement announcement was made most speculated it was due to lack of interest.
