The National Hockey League could have a 2016-2017 campaign full of historic milestones for a large number of National Hockey League players.

There are no less than five players who stand a realistic chance of hitting a major career milestone, the one-thousand point plateau. Of course when we are talking about players who will score one-thousand points in their NHL careers, we are talking about the best of the best, and all of these men are household names.

The closest to the milestone is Vancouver Canucks forward Henrik Sedin, who currently sits just 30 points away from the mark, and he will be followed closely by teammate and brother Daniel Sedin who is currently 58 points back of the mark.

Two other men who have been closely linked their entire careers despite playing for different teams, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, are both likely to hit the mark. Ovechkin is closer, with only 34 points separating him from the milestone, Crosby on the other hand would need 62.

The last player with a chance at the mark is Arizona Coyotes veteran Shane Doan, who needs 55 points to get there. Doan is perhaps the least likely on the list, 55 points is a tough ask from the veteran who hasn't hit that mark in several seasons. Doan did however put up 47 in 2015-2016, and the motivation to hit one-thousand could be enough to push him over the edge.
