A critical season for Jackets’ prospects!
Keystone Press

The upcoming season is a critical for some Columbus Blue Jackets prospects, as the club is counting on several on its young talent to head back to the playoffs.

Amongst them, forward Sonny Milano is looking to crack the roster and prove himself to be a vital part of the roster. With a heavy competition for a few forward spots, the former 1st round pick will have to show up at camp and crack the lineup.

In just seven NHL games in the last two years, Milano recorded one assist. He will face forwards Pierre-Luc Dubois and Vitaly Abramov, who will also be looking to  from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to the big leagues this season.

Let’s not forget Markus Hannikainen, Milano’s teammate with the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League. He has played seven more games than Milano in the NHL, and will be tough to beat out.

Milano will need to improve his defensive game, but the Jackets need to replace depth scoring with the loss of Scott Hartnell and Sam Gagner. Milano could therefore be a strong addition to the team in a sheltered role.

No doubt, the Blue Jackets have good young prospects in their depth chart to help them along the way, or else, give them key elements to complete a trade to fix issues in the future.
