The stage is set for a fierce, edge-of-your-seat series
Hockey fans are in for a thrilling first-round playoff matchup between the Dallas Stars and the Minnesota Wild, two fierce divisional rivals.
With a 3–1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, the Colorado Avalanche secured top spot in the Central Division and the Western Conference. As a result, the Stars and the Wild, who were chasing them in the standings, will now face off in the opening round.
The Central Division trio has dominated the Western Conference this season, with all three teams surpassing the 100-point mark as early as Sunday. The race between the Stars and the Wild, in particular, remained tight throughout the regular season.
Dallas took the first meeting in October with a 5–2 victory. Minnesota responded with an identical 5–2 win in December. Then, on March 21, the Wild came out on top again, this time edging the Stars 2–1 in overtime.
Fans from both sides will get a preview of what could be a long, hard-fought series. The two teams are set to meet Thursday in Dallas.
In their latest game, the Stars needed overtime to defeat the Calgary Flames 4–3, with Wyatt Johnston playing the hero by scoring his second goal of the night.
Meanwhile, the Wild scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Seattle Kraken 5–2.
