Hockey fans who grew up watching some of the game's biggest superstars sporting Reebok equipment will certainly appreciate this latest development: Reebok Hockey has officially returned!
It's a pretty significant development for the hockey equipment industry, particularly for those who remember when Reebok was one of the biggest names in the business. The company has a lengthy history in hockey, one that includes some iconic equipment, memorable NHL partnerships and some of the biggest names ever to play the game.
Reebok's involvement in hockey really took off in 2004, when the company acquired The Hockey Company, the parent company of several established hockey brands, including CCM, Jofa and Koho. The acquisition gave Reebok an immediate foothold in the hockey equipment market and made it a major player in the industry.
In 2005, Reebok introduced its own Rbk Hockey line, featuring skates, sticks and protective equipment. The company quickly assembled an impressive roster of NHL endorsers, including Sidney Crosby, Patrice Bergeron, Pavel Datsyuk, Mike Modano, Chris Pronger and Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
One of the biggest moments in Reebok's hockey history came in 2007, when the company introduced its revolutionary Edge uniform system across the NHL. Reebok also became synonymous with some of the most recognizable hockey equipment of that era, helping establish its identity among players and fans alike.
However, Reebok's time at the forefront of hockey eventually came to an end. Following its acquisition by Adidas, the company gradually moved away from the Reebok-branded hockey equipment business. Adidas eventually took over the NHL's official uniform partnership beginning with the 2017-18 season, bringing an end to an important chapter in Reebok's hockey history.
Now, nearly a decade later, Reebok is preparing to make another run at the hockey equipment market.
The company's return is being made possible through a partnership with Wholesale Sports Inc. (WSI), which will oversee product development, sales and distribution. The initial collection is expected to include ice and inline hockey equipment, including sticks, helmets and skates, with the new product line scheduled to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2026.
WSI already has experience in the hockey equipment business through its TronX ice hockey and Alkali inline hockey brands, making it an interesting partner for Reebok's return.
For longtime hockey fans, seeing the Reebok name back on hockey equipment is undoubtedly going to bring back some memories. Whether the company can recapture the popularity it enjoyed during its previous run remains to be seen, but there is no denying that Reebok is a recognizable name with a significant history in the sport.
And now, Reebok Hockey is getting another opportunity to make its mark on the game.
