A look back at the scouting staff that laughed at Montreal when they drafted Price.

It's Throwback Thursday and we're taking you back to one of the most cringe-worthy moments ever caught on video in the National Hockey League.

The stage is the 2005 NHL draft and in the video we get a behind the scenes look at the process for the Columbus Blue Jackets management team who are drafting 6th overall. We learn in the video that the organization has their hopes set on two men, Jack Johnson who would go third to the Carolina Hurricanes in this draft, or Gilbert Brule, although they would seemingly be willing to settle for Anze Kopitar should they miss those targets.

With the benefit of hindsight however it's not so much the choices made by the Columbus Blue Jackets management team that are the most damning part of the video, it's their reaction to the Montreal Canadiens using a first round pick on goaltender Carey Price. Of course the Jackets do not have the benefit of hindsight, but nonetheless their reactions of incredulity and outright laughter at the Canadiens is rather embarrassing,

That reaction is made so much worse when you realize that the Blue Jackets go on to pass on Kopitar, although so did four other teams who picked after them, to draft Brule who would turn out to be a complete draft bust, perhaps one of the worst in NHL history given the context.

Here's the video:
