A sneak peek at Team Canada roster for 2022 Winter Games

We still have no clue if players from the National Hockey League will be allowed to take part in the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing, however, the TSN expert panel knows that Canada will need to make important changes to its roster. 

It did not take long for them to fantasize about the possibility of having those talented NHL players on board and seeing Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain Sidney Crosby and Edmonton Oilers’ star forward Connor McDavid together on the top lines. 

“We missed out on Crosby and McDavid in 2018...we cannot miss out on them in 2022...”

As you remember, the 2018 men’s hockey tournament was held with non-NHL talent. And we all know how that turned out: Ratings tanked. No one cared.

It’s become abundantly clear that Olympic participation is nothing more than a collective bargaining chip for the NHL. And we don’t know what impact the current NHL shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic will have on the CBA and on-ice action. 

The NHL believes that Olympic participation in February 2022 is inexorably tied to a CBA that expires in September 2022. We will have to see.
