In case you missed it, the Philadelphia Flyers FINALLY relieved head coach Dave Hakstol of his duties yesterday afternoon, replacing him with AHL Lehigh Valley Phantoms head coach Scott Gordon on an interim basis.
While there’s a ton of speculation that the team will hire former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville as their next full time head coach, Gordon is the man behind the bench for now, even if he has the interim tag attached to him.
So… who is Scott Gordon?
The 55 year old former goaltender played 23 NHL games with the Quebec Nordiques in the late 80s / early 90s. He’s been a head coach at the NHL level before, coaching three seasons with the New York Islanders from 2008-2011, he then served as an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs under Ron Wilson for three seasons. Since then he’s been the bench boss in Lehigh Valley for 3+ seasons… but what people don’t talk about with Scott Gordon is his rap career…
Well… calling it a career would be a bit of a stretch, but check out this hilarious clip of Gordon rapping “The Beanpot Trot” with his Boston College teammates ahead of the 1986 Beanpot Final against Boston University.
Yikes… don’t quit your day job, Mr. Gordon.
