Adam Larsson signs a very surprising contract extension in Seattle
Yeesh... that's a major overpay.
Adam 'the trade is 1 for 1' Larsson, has reportedly signed a four year contract extension with the Seattle Kraken worth $5.25 million per season.
From NHL insider Elliotte Friedman:
That's... that's a lot of dough for a guy who arguably isn't even a top four defenseman anymore. Larsson slots behind Vince Dunn, Brandon Montour, Jamie Oleksiak and maybe even Will Borgen on the Kraken's defensive depth chart.
Don't get me wrong, I like Larsson and what he brings to a lineup but he now joins a pretty sizable group of Kraken players with questionable contracts. Dunn is making $7.35 million, Montour $7.14 million, Chandler Stephenson $6.25 million, Jaden Schwartz $5.5 million, Andre Burakovsky $5.5 million, Philipp Grubauer $5.9 million and Yanni Gourde $5.1 million. Now, none of those deals is particularly egregious, but you add them all together and it's clear that GM Ron Francis has overpaid on the lot.
As for Larsson, his new deal will take him until he's 35 years old. He put up four goals and 18 points in 81 games for the Kraken last season.
