Adam Lowry delivers heartbreaking comments after loss in Game 6.
The captain of the Winnipeg Jets is overcome with emotion after an incredibly difficult day.
The Winnipeg Jets were eliminated from contention in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs on Saturday night after the Dallas Stars punched their ticket to the Western Conference Final in Game 6, but following the game all of the focus was on Jets forward Mark Schiefele.
Scheifele had perhaps one of the worst days of his life on Saturday when he awoke to the news that his father, Brad Scheifele, had suddenly and tragically passed away during the night. It was a huge emotional blow for Scheifele on a day he was set to prepare for an elimination game, an ordeal that no one should ever have to go through.
As emotional as the day was for Scheifele however it was clear that he wasn't alone, something that became obvious when seeing the emotion that came pouring out of the Jets during their post-game media availabilities on Saturday night. Head coach Scott Arniel delivered a beautiful and emotional speech about Scheifele following the loss, but perhaps no one drove home just how devastating of a day this was for the Jets better than captain Adam Lowry.
Lowry was overwhelmed by emotion during his own media availability, even apologizing and pausing at times during his comments to collect himself, something understandable given the truly horrible day he had just been through.
"Heartbreaking," began Lowry. "It's just a lot of emotion... it's tough to put into words what Mark went through today.... gets a huge goal for us, plays a heck of a game and it ends the way it does. Just emotional, heavy."
Lowry was genuinely devastated that the team had failed to kill a late tripping penalty picked up by Scheifele, one that would lead to the game winning power play goal from the Stars. Lowry was genuinely torn up, his voice trembling with emotion as he delivered these comments.
"Just an awful day for him," said Lowry. "You want to give him the strength.... you want to get that kill so bad, we just couldn't do it."
Lowry was understanbly emotional under the circumstances, with the Jets captain admitting that the day had taken an extreme emotional toll on him and his team.
"It's just a lot," admitted Lowry. "And then the emotion comes out so.... I'm just disappointed we couldn't get that kill for him."
