The Bruins’ defender turned heads with a brutal hit and even bolder words after the game.
Boston Bruins’ Nikita Zadorov wasn’t playing around on Tuesday night. In the game against the New York Islanders, the defenseman roughed up 2025 No.1 pick Matthew Schaefer when he cracked his stick on the face of the young blue liner. Schaefer’s teammates jumped in to his defense and all Hell broke loose.
When the scrum came to an end, Zadorov received three penalties (interference and roughing against Schaefer and another against Anders Lee). As for Lee and Anthony Duclair, they were called for roughing Zadorov.
But the Bruins’ defender was not done there. After the 4-3 shootout win, Zadorov took to social media to call out his detractors, who commented on his attack on Schaefer.
Without holding back, Zadorov made sure to let these people know to get out of his direct messages and attend the games at UBS Arena to cheer on their favourite team instead.
“Get out of my DMs And go to the Rink To cheer for your team THAT PLACE WAS LIBRARY TONIGHT!!!”
According to the NHL, there were 15,585 fans inside the arena. But I guess they were loud enough for Zadorov, who, in the end, got the last laugh with the shootout victory.
“We’re a big, physical team that needs to create our own energy,” Zadorov commented more media-friendly in postgame interviews. “The crowd was sleeping today, a little bit, so I feel like we had to go out there and create our energy, get everybody going on the bench, and get excited. I thought we did a good job of it for. We stuck with it for 65 minutes and the shootout, and got a big two points.”
I guess Zadorov came out on top all around.
