Will Milan Lucic play in the NHL again? His wife’s post suggests a different kind of comeback. More below:
Back in November 2023, Bruins forward Milan Lucic, who was playing in his second tenure with Boston after returning as a free-agent to the team he began his NHL career with, was arrested following an alleged incident of domestic violence against his wife, Brittany Lucic. Ever since the terrible incident took place and details on what happened in the Lucic home were released, it felt like nothing was going to change or help the veteran forward’s attempt to return to the NHL.
Until this past weekend.
On Sunday, Lucic’s wife Brittany wrote a heartfelt note reflecting on his journey to sobriety on Father’s Day. In an emotional tribute posted on social media, she reflected on his resilience.
“The greatest gift you have given our children is the gift of your sobriety -the ability to experience life through a cleaner, more grounded perspective. You have always been present for them, and now, even more so,” she wrote.
“They are truly fortunate to call you ‘Dad’ and to learn from the thoughtful tools and wisdom you’ve gained along your journey. I am deeply proud of the strength, dedication, and growth you’ve shown as you continue becoming the best version of yourself - for their sake, and for the family we’ve built together.”
Lucic, a former Stanley Cup champion, has openly addressed his battle with addiction. After pleading not guilty, he entered the NHL / NHLPA Assistance Program where he received help for his drug issues.
Milan Lucic and Brittany got married back in 2012 and have three children, daughters Valentina and Nikolina, and son Milan Jr.
I can’t say if the 37-year old would like to return to the NHL, but he has not officially retire from playing. Who knows? Maybe he will come back as a free agent this summer, and get a tryout with a team.
In 1,177 games with the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, Lucic has racked up 233 goals, 353 assists, and 1301 PIM. He was also a key member of the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning Bruins squad.
Not matter what he decides to do, the important thing is to keep focused on his sobriety and being the father his wife and kids love to be able to count on.
